2010 motorcycle tour - 7 days - 1,585 miles

Gillingham - Berwick upon Tweed - Fort William - John O'Groates - Inverness - Carlisle - Gillingham

Day Six - 23.07.2010

A short day - couple of junctions down the M6 then across the North Pennines on the A66.  Then pick up the A1 down south.  The A66 was clear and a joy to travel.

I needed fuel so peeled off on the A59 and went to York.  The traffic in York was mad - felt like parts of London.  Lots of daft students on push bikes.  Rode past the National Railway Museum .  Hey it's free entry - excellent.... then they want £9 to park for half a day.  Screw that - got back on the A59 out of York, stopped for lunch at a garden centre.

Some light traffic on the A1 south.  Weather was good and I arrived at about 3:45pm. The Travelodge at North Muskham is a strange place - but it was nice to have another soak.

Total mileage for the day - 195 miles.

Day Seven - 24.07.2010

Another short day - had a lie in then left late.  Just a run down the A1, A14 and M11.  Encountered a lot of traffic and had to split the lanes until Cambridge.  It cleared then until I got to the Blackwall Tunnel approach - again I had to split the lanes - which wasn't much fun as knobby aresholes kept encroaching to block the gap.

Still made it back for just after 2pm.  Total mileage for the day - 176.4 miles.

Don't know what it was that hit me.... lucky it wasn't in the visor.

Another fuel stop.

Taken at Lynch Wood Business Park - was going to get a shot in the carpark at Bike Magazine but it was a bit bland - this is much better.

Odometer reading at the end - 27,191.  That's 1,585 miles in total.  Total fuel costs - £164.83 across 12 fuel stops (£13.74 average every 160 miles).
